Scarves, Rugs, Skeins

Hand spun, hand dyed yarn

The versatility of fibre is that it can be created into a smooth consistent yarn, or a textured yarn (or somewhere in between). Here, mohair locks were incorporated into this skein, which would give the end product a lively, interesting feel.

Skeins of wool for sale, hand spun and hand dyed.  All are marked with weight and composition of fibre.  Almost all of my skeins are comprised of wool and other fibres such as silk, bamboo, alpaca, mohair etc.  The prices vary depending on the weight and the type of fibre, and all are one of a kind.

RUGS: handwoven, handspun, hand dyed...

Picture
Picture
My rugs are all made of 98% (or more) of wool fibre, or alpaca.

The base fibre is something very chunky like Briggs and Little 5 Strand 'Country' - available at Berkana Wool Shop in Nelson, or I might spin some alpaca into a bulky yarn and ply it into a double thickness.

Then I might use a range of all different yarns, different textures and weights, handspun and commercial to add interest to the bands of colour in the rugs.  ENJOY!

The starting point: hand dyed, hand spun yarn, with some commercial yarns for texture and variety.

Put the wool onto bobbins in the order used in weaving.  Use up all the bobbins to create a rug of many colours!

SHAWLS

These shawls are made using two pieces of woven material hand stitched together to form a V in the back.
A generous length allows one end to be crossed over the shoulder.

These examples of lap blankets are approximately 3.5' x 5' in size.  They are all woven using fairly bulky wools set closely together for warmth.
