Concrete Garden Art:
Stepping Stones, Plaques & Bird Baths
Concrete Plaques, Stepping Stones & Bird Baths are made by hand at Bee Glade Farm
We sometimes use coloured concrete in some of our molds, using pigments mixed in the wet product.
Long ago there used to be a river bed where our property is now, so there is an abundance of sand. We use some of this sand in our concrete work. Other pieces Brian paints with exterior acrylic and then uses a weatherproof seal.
We have also started using copper and iron sulfate washes, which give a wonderful blue-green and golden-copper colour to the pieces.

Stepping stones (measuring from 16" - 18") are reinforced with metal.
Larger wall plaques (12" - 14"), are reinforced with smaller pieces of scrap metal. The metal for hanging hooks are put in the wet concrete so they harden in the cement and are absolutely secure. Some of the molds are finished with a latex finish, this gives a shiny finish, others are left in their natural state.
CONCRETE BIRD BATH
Currently, we have no birdbaths available. They are available to be ordered only in the warmer Spring & Summer months, and take approximately three weeks from order to delivery. Thank you!
Concrete Bird Bath:
Comes apart in 3 separate pieces. We have 2 styles of bird baths- one has a large round top, the other has an Branch/Leaf motif on it. Both the pedestals are the same. We can do variations on the tops and also with the height of the pedestal. In these pictures, the round part at the bottom (with embedded rocks) has been added for better stability: it can be put into the ground to provide a better base. The concrete top and pedestal is reinforced with metal and/or rebar. |
Sometimes at market we are asked if we actually make the molds, no, the majority of molds we use are purchased from various companies - one of them being Catherine Failor Design. Her molds are marked with a (CF) in the photo gallery. All her designs are amazing and lovely. All the molds have been made in the USA.
Brian has been making some small molds: Hedgehog, Owl, basket of flowers. These he has adapted from small ceramic or resin plaques that we have found in our travels at thrift stores and from friends.
The concrete pieces are perfectly fine outside, even in cold winters and rainy springs. The Terracotta Goddess has been on our fence for at least three years now. And she will be there for many more...
